CompTIA Cyberstates 2020™ reveals tech sector’s impact
Boise, Idaho – Information technology (IT) employment in Idaho totals more than 54,000 workers, according to Cyberstates 2020™, the definitive guide to the U.S. tech industry, occupations and trends published annually by CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global IT industry.
Net tech employment in Idaho stood at 54,100 at the end of 2019, accounting for 6.7% of the state’s workforce. Idaho’s net tech employment increased by 4.2% in 2019, the third highest percentage increase in the country.
Between 2010 and 2019 net tech employment grew by 10,159 jobs, an increase of 23.2%. Nearly 7,000 of those jobs were added in the Boise metro area, which saw net tech employment grow by 30.8% during the decade.
There are more than 3,800 tech business establishments in the state.
At $7 billion the tech sector accounts for 9.8% of the state’s economy.
The estimated median tech occupation wage in Idaho is $71,070. That is 88% higher than the median wage for all occupations in the state.

Cyberstates 2020 is based on CompTIA’s analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI), Burning Glass Technologies, Hoovers and other sources.
