WASHINGTON – CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, released the following statement from CompTIA’s executive vice president for public advocacy Elizabeth Hyman regarding the signing of the state budget by California Governor Jerry Brown.
“CompTIA applauds Governor Brown and the California legislature on passing a state budget to fund a new fully online community college that will deliver skills and industry-valued credentials that millions of working adults need to advance their careers and improve their economic future. We look forward to working with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office to ensure that more workers throughout the state have the access and opportunity they need to meet the growing demand for tech jobs.
“Over the next several decades, we expect to see continued growth in California technology sector jobs that require a highly trained workforce. This legislation presents a so-far untapped opportunity to invest in training California’s workers today for the jobs of the future. The 115th community college is unlike anything in California and will address an urgent, unmet need by providing a flexible and affordable educational opportunity for workers to earn short-term certificates and credentials needed for higher wages and job promotion.
“CompTIA works with education outlets to support them in offering IT courses that meet their students’ needs in securing new job opportunities. CompTIA welcomes the opportunity to expand IT course offerings through the new online community college to meet the growing demand for IT training.”
