Where to Now for the IT Channel in Australia and New Zealand?

CompTIA launched in Australia and New Zealand in June to help drive collaboration among the local IT channel industry. The latest ANZ Channel Community meetings we held in Sydney and Melbourne during November featured lively discussion about the challenges we face in the local market and some of the ways we can work towards overcoming them.

Our meeting in Melbourne, the first CompTIA community meeting in Victoria, included a series of roundtable discussions about some of the most pressing issues and challenges the channel is facing in Australia and New Zealand. These included increased cloud migration and how to adapt to it, changes to the distribution models of products and services, and the growing skills gap in the local IT market.

The IT skills gap featured heavily in the discussions. It is predicted that the industry will see a 100,000-person shortage within the next five years. This is compounded by fact that many IT graduates entering the workforce need to do additional certification and training to fill many of the roles on offer, making it harder again to find the right skills for new jobs.

We need to support the idea of boosting IT education in schools and making sure that students, both male and female, know the opportunities the IT industry can offer.

CompTIA is committed to working in partnership with the IT industry community in ANZ to help overcome these pressing concerns and challenges in the local market.
