A Life-Changing Opportunity
The Economic Development Collaborative (EDC), in partnership with multiple regional partners, including CompTIA is leading the Ventura County Digital Upskilling Training Program—a FREE short-term training program that will increase the digital skills of job seekers, current workers and small business operators. The initiative seeks to expand the opportunities and earning power of Ventura County participants by providing them with much-needed digital skills training to help both individuals and employers in the county grow.

Do You Qualify for This FREE Training?
Unemployed or underemployed Underemployed includes, but is not limited to, short-term or part-time employment, less than 40 working hours per week; employed in lower skilled positions and needing training to enter middle and high skilled jobs; or the individual’s level of education, level of skill, or level of wage does not match current or past employment. For example, an individual who holds a bachelor’s degree and works as a cashier. Ventura County, CA residents, age 18 and older, who have a high school diploma or GED and are eligible to work in the United States, can apply for this free comprehensive training program. An aptitude test (ITIQ) and video interview will be required.

- August 7 – November 29, (9:00am PT-12:30pm PT) Mon/Tues/Wed
- Aptitude test (ITIQ) required
- Led by an official CompTIA instructor
- 17-week live instructor-led online training in CompTIA A+, additional study hours will be required each week
- While we can’t guarantee placement, CompTIA career services will assist you with your entry-level IT job search upon successful course completion

What You’ll Learn
By combining CompTIA’s A+ training with IBM’s SkillsBuild, both technical and professional skills needed for success on the job will be covered in this program. All participants will be provided with career services such as resume and LinkedIn help, career days, mock interviews, and job placement support.

IBM SkillsBuild is a national program that provides comprehensive strategies to prepare the workforce for middle- to high-skilled occupations within the information technology industry. By forging public-private partnerships, we bring together industry and employers, education and training providers, the workforce system, state and local government, and other entities that work collaboratively to align resources in response to employer demand and offer education and job training solutions that generate positive outcomes and results.

The Ventura County Digital Upskilling Training program is a NO-COST short-term training program that will increase the digital skills of job seekers, current workers, and small business operators. The initiative seeks to expand the opportunities and earning power of Ventura County participants by providing them with much-needed digital skills training to help both individuals and employers in the County grow.
The 3-year initiative (June 2022 – December 2024) was made possible by State Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, who developed the project idea and secured $5 million in state general funds for a Digital Upskilling pilot in Ventura County.
