CompTIA’s Human Services IT Advisory Group (HSITAG) met with officials from the Administration for Children, Youth and Families and the federal Health and Human Services Agency on Sept. 21st to discuss how the agency is using data to help deliver better customer service and care to citizens.
Up until now, interoperability of data was non-existent and there was not a big focus on how that data could be used to improve service delivery. Chris Traver has been a senior advisor at the HHS agency for a year and has recently took a position heading up the HHS Agency’s office of Planning, Research and Evaluation. Data interoperability will continue to be a focus of the agency and Traver’s Office will now be in a position to coordinate that interoperability across departments within the agency.
Traver discussed how places within the administration are very savvy at using data and how his office would like to support that level of sophistication across the agency. The scope and mission of his office is broad, and the division’s focus on data is new, but HSITAG welcomes the idea of a data driven government and applauds the HHS Agency’s initiative to use data to drive decision making.
