From Valley Forge to Normandy to Vietnam to Afghanistan, brave men and women, from all walks of life, have left the comforts of the familiar, leaving family and friends, to defend our way of life and the freedoms many take for granted.  Today, Veteran’s Day, let’s give thanks to all our veterans.

CompTIA has a specific program to help military personnel and their spouses get the training they need to launch an IT career.  The big bonus – it’s free.  It’s our simple way of saying thank you to those who serve.

In the past four years, we’ve helped more than 1,000 veterans get the training and certification they need to jump into the IT workforce through our Creating Futures program.

Below is testimony about Creating Futures from one of our veteran participants:

Jonathan Cragle, a Navy veteran from Wash. -- I had a successful career in marketing for a couple of software companies, but due to downsizing and family changes I found myself unemployed.  As an older Veteran I found it more difficult to compete in the job market, so I wanted to pursue work in the technical field.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have the necessary certifications that companies were using as hiring criteria.  I couldn’t afford the training or costs and thought my dream over before it even started.

I continued my research on certifications and found the “Creating Futures” program.  At first I thought I wouldn’t qualify, but I decided to apply anyway.  To my surprise I was accepted and that began my certification journey where I earned my A+ and Network+ certifications through the generous training and funding of the CompTIA Educational Foundation.   I am currently pursuing my Security+ certification and have already been able to get 10 job interviews as a result of my new certifications.  I don’t have a job offer yet, but know it’s only a matter of time until I do and it wouldn’t be possible without the Creating Futures program.

I would highly encourage all Veterans to apply for the program.  The training is top-notch and all of the great people I’ve come into contact in the program have been incredibly kind and helpful.  Thank you, CompTIA and its partners for making my dream come true!

Help us help our veterans.  You can give back by donating cash or in-kind training materials to the CompTIA Educational Foundation.

Take time on Veteran’s Day to remember those who have given their all and continue to give more to our country.  And to all our veterans, “Thank you!”
