CompTIA Supports Smith-Cohen Bill to Create National Framework for Taxation of Digital Goods and Services

Oct 15, 2018

WASHINGTON — CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global technology industry, released the following statement from CompTIA Executive Vice President for Public Advocacy Elizabeth Hyman regarding the introduction of legislation by Representatives Lamar Smith and Steve Cohen (and a companion bill in the Senate from Sens. John Thune and Ron Wyden) to create a national framework for taxation of digital goods and services.

“We applaud Congressman Smith and Congressman Cohen and Sen. Thune and Sen. Wyden for sponsoring legislation that would ensure fairness in taxation for digital goods and services. Consumers buying software or music online should not be subject to duplicative or double taxes, and the Smith-Cohen bill would ensure that such goods and services will be treated the same as their physical equivalents. We look forward to working with Congress to advance this important measure.”
