The CompTIA State Government Affairs (SGA) National Committee convened its annual mid-year meeting on August 7th at the Aloft Seaport Hotel in Boston. The meeting was held in conjunction with the National Conference of State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Legislative Summit. The meeting kicked off with a session on several key activities that the overall CompTIA organization is undertaking, including an overview of the CompTIA Association for IT Professionals (AITP).
The bulk of the meeting featured a recap of the legislative advocacy efforts for the CompTIA SGA team to date in 2017. This year, CompTIA SGA has been busy tracking more than 1,400 bills impacting the technology industry in 49 states across the different SGA policy portfolios (Education, Environment, Privacy, Procurement, and Tax). In addition to hearing about legislative accomplishments, some discussion took place on the landscape for technology issues at play in the state public policy world for the remainder of the year and forecasting the potential for 2018 activity.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on planning for the 2017 CompTIA State Tech Summit, scheduled to be held in Scottsdale October 11-12 at the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. More information will be circulated to CompTIA members in the coming weeks regarding the State Tech Summit.
Kevin Callahan is CompTIA’s director of state government affairs for the Northeast region.
