  • A Look at 2018 Federal Tech Policy and Tech Spending

    Last week, the CompTIA State & Local Government and Education (SLED) Council hosted its first SLED Summit of the year at the Verizon Tech & Policy Center in Washington DC. We heard from government and public sector leaders, the federal government and other local leaders who dove into issues relevant to our SLED Council membership. One of our speakers was Charles Cooper, executive vice president of the Signal Group who provided a federal tech policy government outlook with a deep dive into the current administration and how federal policies will affect policy and tech spending at the state/local level.

  • Update on FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018

    On Thursday, The House of Representatives began consideration of H.R. 4, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 – a bipartisan, five-year bill to reauthorize the programs of the Federal Aviation Administration, provide long-term stability for the Nation’s aviation community, invest in U.S. airports, and make necessary reforms to improve American competitiveness and safety in aviation. There were a number of amendments offered, focusing on drones. CompTIA submitted comments on the amendments, supporting one amendment while voicing our dissent with another.

  • Change to One of the Most Important Laws of the Internet Could Have Unintended Consequences

    On February 27, the House passed the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA) by a 388-25 vote. Given the overwhelming support for the bill reflected in the vote, you might think this bill was largely non-controversial, but you’d be mistaken. Despite FOSTA’s vital goal of curbing online sex trafficking and protecting its victims, the bill has been opposed by groups like the ACLU, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Center for Democracy and Technology, as well as many tech companies and trade associations, including CompTIA.
