DOWNERS GROVE, ILL., November 3, 2021 – CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the global information technology (IT) industry, today announced the creation of a new technology interest group (TIG) for local government technology professionals.
City and county governments depend on technology solutions and services to deliver critical public services and support to residents and businesses. At no other time in history have technology solutions and professionals been more vital to local governments.
“CompTIA is dedicated to the needs of technology professionals who serve our city and county governments,” said Nancy Hammervik, executive vice president of industry relations and CEO of the CompTIA Tech Career Academy. “The Local Government Technology Interest Group will serve as an online forum where public sector technology professionals can stay connected to important industry developments and conversations and share experience and best practices with their peers from around the country.”
CompTIA’s Local Government Technology Interest Group offers participants access to a dedicated online forum where they can gain insight, share ideas, join discussions, discover relevant resources, and network with peers.
The new group builds on CompTIA’s growing leadership in local government technology. The association’s Public Technology Institute (PTI), which was founded in 1971, actively supports local government officials through research, education, professional development, executive-level consulting services, and national recognition programs.

2021 Public Technology Institute National Survey of Local Government Cybersecurity Programs and Cloud Initiatives: A comprehensive survey of technology leaders from around the nation with insights into cybersecurity and cloud priorities, funding and future initiatives.
2021 Local Government CIO Survey: This annual survey features detailed information on the technology programs within city and county governments and a broad collection of opinions from technology leaders.
Blockchain for Entitlements: Produced by CompTIA’s Blockchain Advisory Council, this piece explores six ways blockchain helps governments reduce costs, improve compliance and monitor entitlement programs.
Cybersecurity and Elected Leaders: How a Ransomware Attack Impacts You: This publication focusses on valuable information for elected and appointed local government leaders so they better understand the unique challenges and opportunities tech solutions and services present local governments.
