CAMARILLO, Calif. – Job seekers and underemployed workers in Ventura County are invited to apply for a free training program designed to enhance digital skills and create opportunities to join the growing technology workforce.

CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, is working with the Economic Development Collaborative (EDC), a nonprofit organization in Ventura County, to offer free short-term training as part of the Ventura County Digital Upskilling Training Program.

The program is an economic mobility initiative designed to increase the digital skills of job seekers, current workers and small business operators, while facilitating economic growth in the county. The $5 million state-funded pilot program is led by EDC, which delivers business consulting, funding and strategic initiatives to support the regional economy. By December 2024, the program aims to train 200 people in computer basics, 100 in information and communication technology upskilling and help 100 small businesses and entrepreneurs get their businesses online.

“This training program addresses a critical need for tech talent in many businesses in Ventura County,” said Mark Plunkett, senior vice president, solutions and services, CompTIA. “We are proud to support this excellent opportunity for residents to enhance their digital skills and unlock rewarding job opportunities in tech.”

Within the technology training program, CompTIA is leading a cohort for underemployed workers who already have basic digital skills but need specific training and professional certifications to help them move into better-paying jobs with more opportunities for career advancement. CompTIA will deliver instruction in two of its industry-leading professional certifications:

CompTIA A+, the globally recognized skills certification for technology professionals who provide technical support.

CompTIA Security+, which validates the baseline skills necessary to perform core security functions and pursue a career in cybersecurity.

Millions of current and aspiring technology workers around the world rely on CompTIA for the training, education and professional certifications that give them the confidence and skills to work in tech. CompTIA has awarded more than 3.1 million certifications to technology professionals around the world.
