When technology changes quickly, keeping skills current becomes more than just a professional development goal. It becomes a business requirement.
Founded in 2009, Dallas/Fort Worth-based IntegraMSP supports organizations across construction, manufacturing, legal services, property management, logistics and nonprofit sectors. As artificial intelligence began moving from industry headlines into everyday business conversations, the company faced a challenge familiar to many managed service providers: ensuring employees had the knowledge to discuss AI confidently while helping clients navigate its opportunities and risks.
As a 10-person team managing roughly 55 clients and 880 endpoints across construction, manufacturing, legal and other sectors, that challenge was immediate and practical. Clients weren’t waiting for IntegraMSP to have answers. Some were already experimenting on their own.
For Jennifer Gilligan, president of IntegraMSP, the answer starts with education. Professional development is embedded in the company's culture, with employees encouraged to pursue certifications, build new skills and follow learning paths aligned with both business needs and individual career goals. As Gilligan put it, "The team is very proud of what we've built. We have a strong company culture, and education is an important part of it."
This culture of continuous learning set the stage for how the company tackled AI. When the company gained access to CompTIA AI Essentials through its GTIA membership, leadership saw an opportunity to apply the same workforce development philosophy to one of the fastest-moving technologies affecting both its team and its clients.
“CompTIA AI Essentials gave our team the confidence to guide clients through real AI conversations.”
Creating a shared foundation for AI literacy
As client questions about AI increased, Gilligan recognized that those conversations would not be limited to engineers or technical staff. Employees across the organization, from service coordination to client success, would need a working understanding of the technology and its implications.
Across IntegraMSP's client base, AI conversations were moving in unpredictable directions. A few clients had already brought in outside help to build custom language model tools. Others were ready to plug sensitive business data into consumer AI tools without fully understanding the implications. And about 70% of clients were not ready to have the AI conversation at all. IntegraMSP needed a team that could meet clients wherever they were, whether that meant slowing someone down or helping another client take their first careful steps forward.
Through its membership in GTIA, IntegraMSP gained free access to CompTIA AI Essentials. Rather than making the course available only to select employees, the company enrolled all team members. "Everyone participated, from our sales assistant and service coordinator to our technical staff, client success manager, executive team and CEO," Gilligan said.
The response was immediate. Employees across the company completed CompTIA AI Essentials and earned their Competency Certificate within roughly a week and a half. For IntegraMSP, the impact ran deeper than a credential count. The course gave the team a structured framework covering AI concepts, responsible use, prompting fundamentals and practical business applications. The prompting module stood out in particular. For technical employees, it reframed how non-technical users think about and interact with AI, a perspective shift that translated directly into more effective client conversations.
Completing the course also helped employees understand why AI had become a strategic priority for the company, giving everyone a shared vocabulary that made client conversations more consistent across departments. And because every team member completed the same training, IntegraMSP could point to that as a concrete signal of its commitment to responsible AI adoption. It became something the company could demonstrate to clients directly, not just describe. IntegraMSP was already educating clients through webinars, content and advisory conversations. Now it could draw on the full team in those discussions, not just a handful of subject matter experts.
The goal was never to make every employee an AI specialist overnight. It was to ensure employees could participate intelligently in conversations about what AI can do, where it introduces risk and how organizations can approach it responsibly.
Turning learning into business value
Many of IntegraMSP's clients are still determining how AI fits into their organizations. Some are actively exploring tools and use cases. Others are moving cautiously, constrained by regulatory requirements that prohibit certain uses of AI entirely. And some are moving faster than their security posture can support, which is where IntegraMSP's role as an advisor becomes most critical. "Education is one of our most important tools right now," Gilligan said. "We encourage clients to take a step back, understand how these technologies work and carefully consider what information and systems they are giving them access to."
One of the most immediate outcomes of the CompTIA AI Essentials initiative was increased employee confidence. The training reinforced their existing knowledge while providing a common framework for discussing AI with clients. "It reinforced that they can have informed conversations with clients about AI and provide meaningful guidance," Gilligan said.
For the business, the commercial payoff went well beyond individual professional growth. Instead of AI expertise residing primarily within technical roles, employees across the organization became better equipped to participate in client discussions. Questions could be answered more consistently, conversations could begin earlier, and clients could receive guidance from a broader range of team members.
By completing CompTIA AI Essentials as a team, IntegraMSP created a shared organizational capability that supports client advisory conversations and readies the company for a shift Gilligan has watched before. "The insurance and legal industry drove the push for cybersecurity," she said. "They're moving even faster with AI."
Investing in people for the long term
While AI provided the catalyst for a company-wide learning initiative, workforce development remains the larger story.
CompTIA certifications were already part of IntegraMSP's professional development strategy before AI Essentials. The company also uses CompTIA A+ for its technical staff and supports employees pursuing additional certifications aligned with their roles and career aspirations. The choice to begin with CompTIA certifications is intentional. Vendor-specific exams shift frequently as platforms update their requirements, making it difficult to maintain a consistent benchmark across the team. CompTIA's vendor-neutral credentials provide a stable, industry-recognized foundation that holds its value regardless of which tools or platforms a client uses.
For Gilligan, those investments are about more than filling immediate skills gaps. They are part of a broader commitment to employee development. "Whether employees spend their entire careers with us or pursue opportunities elsewhere, we want to ensure they leave with valuable skills, knowledge and professional growth," she said.
Over time, it’s become part of how IntegraMSP is known in the market. Team members have noted that carrying IntegraMSP experience on a resume signals a certain standard of training, one that recruiters in the region have come to recognize. Gilligan sees that reputation as an asset in both directions: it helps attract candidates who want to grow, and it reinforces the kind of culture where people tend to stay.
As AI continues to evolve, IntegraMSP plans to continue building on the baseline established through CompTIA AI Essentials. The company is expanding client education efforts, exploring AI readiness services and continuing to invest in employee development.
IntegraMSP's response to AI did not begin with a new product or service. It began with a decision to invest in people. By making CompTIA AI Essentials part of a company-wide learning initiative, IntegraMSP gave employees a validated foundation in AI, strengthened their confidence in client conversations, and created a shared capability that supports both workforce development and business growth.
