DevOps Experts Needed

CompTIA is seeking Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to review, validate, and assist in building a new DevOps certification exam. SMEs will ensure exam content is technically accurate, industry-relevant, vendor-neutral where intended, and written at the appropriate depth for mid-level DevOps professionals with real-world operational experience.

The CompTIA DevOps certification development effort requires SMEs with hands-on experience operating and supporting modern DevOps environments. This certification will validate the knowledge and skills required to design, build, deploy, secure, operate, and monitor software systems using DevOps practices across cloud services, cybersecurity-focused environments, and enterprise IT organizations.

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • DevOps / Platform Engineering experience: Approximately 3–4 years in a hands-on role supporting production systems (DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, systems administration, or cloud operations).
  • CI/CD pipeline operations: Practical experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
  • Cloud infrastructure operations: Hands-on experience operating workloads in AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform, including compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
  • Infrastructure as Code and automation: Experience using IaC and configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef) to provision and manage infrastructure.
  • Container platforms: Practical experience deploying and operating containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes or managed container services.
  • Monitoring and incident response: Proven ability to monitor system health, investigate alerts, analyze logs and metrics, and resolve production incidents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DevSecOps exposure: Experience integrating security controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance checks into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Observability tooling: Experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Elastic Stack, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Enterprise IT environments: Experience supporting hybrid or legacy-integrated environments, including change management and compliance requirements.
  • Scripting and automation: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for operational automation.
  • Certification or formal training: Industry certifications related to cloud platforms, DevOps, containers, or infrastructure automation.

SMEs who attend the workshop will receive:

  • An honorarium of $440 per day (or $2,200 total for the week)*, pending adequate level of participation
  • 40 continuing education credits (CEUs)
  • Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments daily during the workshop
  • A complimentary CompTIA testing voucher for the exam of their choice
  • CompTIA SME digital badge for resume and social media

In recognition of their contributions, all SMEs who participate in the entire workshop will have their names and companies (if provided) listed on the CompTIA website.

*International SMEs will instead receive $540/day stipend ($2,700 total) to help defer additional travel costs.

*International SMEs are those who live outside of the US, Mexico, Canada or Puerto Rico.
