With the size of the U.S. information technology workforce growing by 2.4 percent annually in 2014, how did IT professionals perceive the challenges ahead for 2015? What were the key distinguishing factors leading to sustained growth for that year? And how was the U.S. IT market faring compared to the rest of the world?
CompTIA’s 2015 Industry Outlook report provides a detailed snapshot of the IT economy in the U.S., based on a survey of some 649 IT industry executives and professionals conducted in December 2014. What it reveals speaks volumes as to how American IT professionals addressed the changing needs of a growing workforce, facing fundamental shifts in its support structure. Here’s some of what you’ll see:
- Greater than two-thirds of respondents polled characterized their hiring environment for technical positions as challenging or very challenging, compared with just one-third who characterized non-technical hiring the same way.
- Even so, more than two in five respondents said the IT departments in their organizations were, to some degree, understaffed.
- CompTIA forecast the highest IT Industry Business Confidence Index for the second quarter of 2015, than for any time over a six-year period.
- Experts polled projected U.S. IT sector growth for 2015 slightly outpacing the global growth rate, and measurably outpacing growth for Canada and the U.K.
