WELLINGTON, New Zealand – New Zealanders can expand their knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of information and communications technology through a new program from CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the technology industry and workforce.
Students, scholars, career changers, people returning to the workforce, retirees or anyone with an interest in technology are invited to register for the free learning opportunity, valued at more than $1,500 and offered by CompTIA, its ANZ Business Technology Community and its industry partner the New Zealand Skills and Education (NZSE) College and Skills Campus.
“Whether you are seeking employment in a tech occupation or as a knowledge worker in another field, having strong digital skills can be an important difference-maker in the eyes of potential employers,” said Loraine Vorster, CompTIA vice president for business development in ANZ and Africa. “We are excited to bring this training program to New Zealand in the hope that it can help people attain their career aspirations.”
The training is centered around CompTIA IT Fundamentals (CompTIA ITF+), a professional certification that validates an individual has the essential IT skills and knowledge needed to complete tasks commonly performed by advanced end-users and entry-level IT professionals, demonstrating their readiness for the digital workplace.
“Technology has become more important than ever in this global environment,” said Brijesh Sethi, founder of the NZSE College and Skills Campus. “As one of the longest standing training providers in the New Zealand tech sector, we are determined to support the growth of the tech sector workforce by providing quality training and preparation for the industry certifications. We are thrilled to work with CompTIA to promote technology career paths in our community.”
New Zealand’s tech sector has experienced strong employment growth over the past decade, expanding by an estimated 2,000 new jobs each year.[1] At the end of 2019 there were an estimated 114,450 people employed in the country’s tech sector and nearly 100,000 people employed as IT professionals across all sectors of the economy. Yet even with this growth, employers report that they are challenged to find candidates with the required skills to fill their IT job openings.
“Recognising the ever-increasing skills gap in the ICT industry, it’s more important than ever for organisations within the industry to do what they can to close that gap,” said Daniel Johns, managing consultant with CyberCX and chair of the CompTIA ANZ Business Technology Community. “CompTIA is in a unique position as not only an industry advocate, but a globally recognised certification body as well. We hope the adoption of this initiative will be widely received.“
