Washington, D.C. – CompTIA, the leading association for the global information technology (IT) industry, today named Laura Curtis senior director of state government affairs for California and Hawaii where she will lead the association's advocacy efforts in those states. In addition, Curtis will also oversee CompTIA’s tax portfolio at the state level across the country.
Curtis previously served as a policy advocate for the California Chamber of Commerce. In this role, Curtis monitored and analyzed the impact statewide legislation and regulations had on California’s businesses. She also provided testimony, negotiated with legislators and worked with member companies to determine policy positions.
“Laura knows the state of California well and her experience educating, informing and advocating for member positions with lawmakers will be an asset to our team,” said Alexi Madon, vice president, state government affairs, CompTIA. “California is a key legislative state and I know Laura is up to the challenge. Her work on the ground will be a benefit to our members and a welcome addition to our 50-state advocacy program.”
Prior to joining the California Chamber of Commerce, Curtis was a labor and employment attorney at The Mitzel Group, LLP, a law firm in San Francisco, CA, where she counseled clients on wage and hour law, protected leave of absence, harassment and discrimination, wrongful termination and administrative agency compliance. Curtis was also as a labor and employment attorney for Littler Mendleson, PC and a workers’ compensation attorney for Mastagni Holstedt, APC.
“I am excited to join CompTIA and help advocate for issues at the state level that matter most to our industry including privacy, tax, emerging technology and workforce issues,” said Curtis.
Curtis holds a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of California at San Diego.
