Thier expertise in the eLearning sector, combined with their unique approach to crafting eLearning programmes for students, and their focus on the key growth areas in the UK, has taken The Learning People from strength to strength. In three short years, The Learning People is now the number one supplier of business to consumer Skillsoft training in Europe. They also operate in Dubai and are growing fast, with our workforce expanding each month, and potential ventures for new locations and new courses being explored.



Luke Barton

Luke Barton is the Business Development Manager for CAPP Delivery in Western Europe for CompTIA, based in the London Office. Luke joined CompTIA in May following a successful career in the Learning and Development sector with Capita, predominantly working in the corporate sector. Luke’s drive is helping people gain the skills to continually improve themselves and giving them a platform to achieve their career goals. In Luke’s spare time he enjoys the Football, training for this year’s Marathon and watching endless re-runs of Star Wars.



Marie Cronin

Marie Cronin is Senior Manager for CAPP Delivery in Western Europe for CompTIA, and she’s based in the London Office. Marie has recently joined the CompTIA team, previously working for partners that deliver CompTIA certifications through apprenticeships linked to large and SME businesses in England. Other experience relates to providing the young unemployed with new skills and jobs in a range of sectors along with IT Recruitment. With over 12 years related experience, Marie’s passion lies within bridging the skills gap in the tech sector and will be working with CompTIA partners to drive forward CompTIA certification’s across the region with the aim of creating the future workforce for IT in the region.



Jane Dickinson

Jane Dickinson is the Academy Program Lead within the Western European team at CompTIA, a not for profit, global IT trade association working to advance the industry through advocacy, education, certification, networking and philanthropy.

Jane is passionate about attracting young people into IT careers and helping educators incorporate industry relevant content and certification in their programmes.

Prior to CompTIA, Jane has many years of sales and marketing experience in IT content publishing/distribution.

Now retired from her beloved sailing and netball, she volunteers at her local ATC squadron in her spare time.

Andy Dow

Andy returned to Tech Data as the Marketing Director in April 2010 having previously enjoyed seven years with the company as a General Manager in Sales, Product Marketing and Marketing. During the 10 year spell away from Tech Data Andy held director roles at Westcoast Distribution and at Dell Computers. Andy also spent 9 years at Hewlett-Packard in the formative days of IT channel business. He brings a deep understanding of the channel and the needs of the reseller community.

Eliza Manningham-Buller


Former Head of MI5

Eliza Manningham-Buller headed Britain’s Security Service (MI5) from 2002 to 2007, leading the organisation though substantial change in the wake of 9/11 and the threat from Al-Qaeda. During her time at the helm MI5 doubled in size, opened eight new offices and altered its approach to the professional development of staff with the establishment of a training academy.

Earlier in her career, Eliza led the Service’s investigation into the Lockerbie bombing. She served in Washington during the first Gulf war, returning to establish MI5’s intelligence effort against the Provisional IRA in mainland Britain. She joined the board and assumed lead responsibility for work on Irish terrorism, surveillance, technical collection, finance and IT before becoming Deputy Director General in charge of intelligence operations.

In presentations Eliza draws on her experience in the most demanding of environments to stress the need for leaders in any walk of life to engage in frank dialogue and invite criticism: “Do not try to be something you’re not, take responsibility for your team and remember that praising people takes seconds and can make an enormous difference. And don’t forget that humour can be found even in the most awful situations.”

Eliza Manningham-Buller is an active cross-bench Peer and the Chair of the Wellcome Trust, one of the world’s largest non-governmental fund providers for scientific research. She was also chosen to deliver the prestigious BBC Reith Lectures, alongside the Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.



John McGlinchey

John McGlinchey is the Executive Vice President for Global Business Development, for CompTIA, the IT Industry Trade Association. CompTIA represents more than 12,000 member companies and registered users around the world; and is the world’s leading provider of vendor-neutral skills certifications for the global IT workforce.
John is responsible for leading the global business development team in the promotion and sales of CompTIA certifications. This includes the development and delivery of partnership relationships as well as cooperating with the education and training communities across the world.

With 25-plus years of commercial experience, the majority in the IT training and certification industry, John is a successful, dynamic, strategic and highly committed senior executive with a proven track record as a leader, directing sales staff in the consistent achievement of targets and performance metrics.

Prior to taking on his current role with CompTIA in June 2013, John served as the organization’s Vice President for Europe and the Middle East, providing senior strategic direction, leadership, management and support to the EME team. He joined CompTIA in 2011 as regional sales director for the United Kingdom.

Before joining CompTIA, John held executive sales positions with New Horizons, QA, GTG and Technical Training Ltd.

Anne Milton




Biography

Anne Milton was appointed Minister of State at the Department for Education on 12 June 2017. She was elected as MP for Guildford (revised boundary) in 2010.

Education

Anne was educated at Haywards Heath Grammar School (which became Haywards Heath Sixth Form College in 1980, then Central Sussex College Sixth Form Campus in 2005) on Harlands Road in West Sussex.

Political career

Anne was appointed to the Health Select Committee, serving until December 2006, following her appointment as Shadow Minister for Tourism. In summer 2007 David Cameron appointed her Shadow Minister for Health. Between 2010 and 2012 she served as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Public Health), Department of Health and was appointed to the government as a whip with responsibility for HM Treasury and HM Household.

Career outside politics

Anne trained as a nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and worked for the NHS for 25 years, as a district nurse and for people requiring palliative care.

Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills

The minister’s responsibilities include:

  • apprenticeships including the apprenticeship levy, traineeships and institutes of technology
  • technical education and skills, including T-levels
  • careers education, information and guidance
  • post-16 funding (including support for young people and adult learners)
  • further education colleges, sixth-form colleges and local patterns of provision (including area reviews and city deals)
  • adult education, including the National Retraining Scheme
  • reducing the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training
  • leading on the review of funding across tertiary education

Minister for Women

The Minister for Women has overall responsibility for policy on gender equality.

Before June 2017, this role was covered by the Minister for Women and Equalities.

Eddie Obeng

Eddie Obeng is a British educator and author. He is a Professor at the School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Henley Business School and the Founder of Pentacle (The Virtual Business School) and QUBE, the world’s best 3D learning environment.

Obeng is notable as a pioneer in the field of Project Management and for developing and championing the concept of 'New World Management' as a response to the rapidly accelerating pace of change. He has been described variously as "a leading revolutionary" and "an agent provocateur" by the Financial Times, and by Abbey National as their "secret weapon".

His business career started as an engineer at Shell before he became the youngest Executive Director of a European Business School when he moved to Ashridge Business School in 1987. In 1994 he established Pentacle (The Virtual Business School) in order to teach this philosophy and ensure that there was a "continuous link between learning and implementation". In 2011, he won the Sir Monty Finniston Award for lifetime achievement by The Association of Project Managers for his contributions to the study and practice of Project Management.

Obeng and his team have spent the best part of a decade re-writing the fundamentals of business management to create their own coherent, joined up New World approach. They have challenged all the established thinking and re-interpreted the needs for the 21st century of complexity and fast change. Eddie brings genuinely new concepts, materials and practice. He has written up some of his work in over 12 books.



Alison Pearce

Alison Pearce is a Senior Manager, Skills Certification working for CompTIA with their Academic partners. This involves working with Academic institutions in the UK and Netherlands supporting the integration of CompTIA certification content into the standard curriculum to support and enhance delivery for instructors. This partnership also provides students with the opportunity to achieve industry recognised certifications prior to progressing into employment and with minimal additional learning.

Prior to joining CompTIA earlier this year, Alison worked as Sector Specialist for Digital Technologies at OCR the Awarding Organisation. Her role included the development of accredited IT and Digital qualifications and she worked closely with the CompTIA team to ensure that the developed units contained the industry recognised content of the CompTIA certifications to provide the added value for learners. She is a qualified teacher and has taught for both colleges and training providers.



Steven Pretlove

He has worked in the IT industry for over 20 years building a wealth of experience with large international corporations such as GMAC, Serco and Lloyds, as well as a number of SME's. From desktop engineering to global design and project management, he is dedicated to providing the best IT solutions for businesses and their teams. Steven is also passionate about nurturing other IT businesses.

He leads the historic Thames Valley Small Business Server Community, where he coordinates meetings that share insight and best practice for the mutual benefit of the business owners who attend. In his free time he enjoys a sharp contrast to his busy technical world, with blasts of nature - hiking, cycling and tending his allotment.

Jane Silber

Jane Silber is an experienced tech leader and executive.  She has held leadership roles in start ups, mid-sized and large companies across the US, UK and Japan. Most recently she was CEO of Canonical, the company which produces the Ubuntu operating system.  She started her career as a software developer and has worked in tech her entire career, in fields as diverse as personal health assessment, artificial intelligence, military command and control, and open source operating systems.  She is currently on the Boards of Canonical, The Sensible Code Company, and Open Knowledge International.   



Andrew Smith

Having worked in Further and Higher education for over 20 years, Andrew is motivated by the need to ensure that vocational industry based education is at the heart of an academic experience. Working at a distance learning university, Andrew is one of the Jisc top #50 social media influencers, having utilised Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN as tools to teach a large community of students.

Amongst his many activities, Andrew engages with national education, works with other vendors and has a number of popular text books in circulation covering networking, systems security and systems maintenance.



James Stanger

Chief Technology Evangelist
CompTIA

Dr. Stanger is a respected authority in security, open source, network administration, and IT certification. He has consulted with corporations, governments and learning institutions worldwide for over 20 years. Organizations include IBM, Symantec, the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), the United Arab Emirates Cultural Division, the Open University (UK), the U.S. Department of State, Mesei University, the University of Phoenix, and the Business Professionals of America (BPA). He has developed IT-based education and certifiication programs used around the world.

James has published books and articles with O’Reilley, Sybex, Eselvier, Linux Pro Magazine, and Admin Magazine, and many others concerning security, Linux, Web technologies, and IT support. His writings have been translated in over a dozen languages.

He is also a respected educator, having created education events and Webcasts to audiences worldwide since the 1990s. He has designed and taught both traditional and on-line courses, and is also an award-winning blogger and social media consultant. He regularly speaks at events worldwide.

Currently, Dr. Stanger is Senior Director of Products at CompTIA, where he determines the direction and strategy for its certifications. CompTIA is the world’s largest vendor-neutral certification body, offering certifications such as A+, Network+, Security+, and CSA+. He lives and plays in the Puget Sound area of the United States.
