A former Royal Marines officer who worked for Nelson Mandela during the peace process in the early nineties, Monty left the forces to pursue a career in expeditions, travel journalism, and marine biology. He is a Land Rover global ambassador, president of the Galapagos Conservation Trust and a Help for Heroes patron. In 2003 he was awarded the Bish Medal by the Scientific Exploration Society for services to exploration and in 2010, an honorary Doctor of Science degree by Plymouth University.
Monty presented numerous documentaries on the BBC, Channel 4, Discovery, Five, and Nat Geo, and latterly moved into producing, ultimately launching his own production company (Seadog TV & Film Productions).
Monty is best known for his three BBC2 Great Escapes’ series, where he lived on the west coasts of Scotland and Ireland with his dog Reuben. He also presented the multi-award winning series ‘Great Barrier Reef’ the ground-breaking expedition series ‘Lost Worlds’ for the Discovery Channel and ‘Monty Halls’ Dive Mysteries’ for Channel 5.
Monty’s production company Seadog has filmed two series for Channel 4. “Freedom Trails” - an RTS Best Factual Series nominee 2018 - and the just aired “My Family & the Galapagos” in its first 2 years of operation. Seadog is unusual - possibly unique - in the broadcast industry as it was formed entirely through crowdfunding. The company has recently launched a successful second fund raise to fully explore the VR / 360 / multi-platform market.

Monty’s talks on leadership, his after-dinner speeches, and his seminars on team dynamics have been in high demand for two decades on the national and international circuit. His presentations are a wry examination of the perpetual challenge of leading well, and of maintaining world-class performance in a changing world.

Twenty years of working with organisations large and small have resulted in a delivery that is fast- paced, thought-provoking, funny, and energising. His talks range from subjects as diverse as responding to failure, maintaining the aim in a changing world, how to generate and sustain momentum, and the common responses to stress that unite us all.

Helping Governments, Organisations and People build IT & Cyber Capability | Non-profit IT Trade Association
The field of technology now draws more focus than ever before, and governments and businesses alike are scrambling to understand the best approach for this new environment. With new trends seeming to pop up on regular basis, there is a struggle to understand the implications of new innovation and the safe and secure path forward which exploits this for good. So when building capability how can organisations overcome some of these challenges? How can the pace of change be addressed? What mindset do Security Professionals need to detect the inevitable breaches and act quickly and decisively? What role does Talent development and retention play in all of this? My role in CompTIA is to help Governments and Organisations build a workforce capable of exploiting technical innovation, protect valuable information and at the same time help address the scarcity of talent. So for me building a capable workforce with knowledge, skills and experience can only be carried out effectively if it is done sustainably by promoting the value and excitement of technology careers and encouraging new entrants into the industry. As a non-profit trade association, we advance the global interests of IT professionals and IT channel organisations and enable them to be more successful with industry-leading IT certifications and IT business credentials, IT education, resources and the ability to connect with like-minded, leading IT industry experts. We are the leading resource for tech professionals. CompTIA may not have all of the answers, but through the experience we’ve gained and the clients we’ve worked with we bring a depth of knowledge which can help guide organisations to building capability in the workforce. Come and join the conversation, contact me directly at ghunter@CompTIA.org or call +44 0207 330 6060.
