We have heard it a hundred times: we have a cybersecurity workforce shortage. The longer we let the problem perpetuate, the harder it will be to fix. This panel will examine one way to help fill the skills and confidence gap in cybersecurity – apprenticeships. By leveraging this training model, tech companies are able to put more workers into jobs quickly and with the requisite skills needed both from classroom and on-the-job perspectives.
Moderator:Rebecca Rainey, Employment & Immigration Reporter, Politico
Panelists:
We’ll divide the group into three sections to discuss the key policy issues and how to present each issue to Members of Congress and their staffs. CompTIA staff and other experts will work with each group on the issues to ensure we deliver a powerful and consistent message.
Presenters:
With the recent implementation of the GDPR in Europe, and new privacy laws in California and Brazil, the buzz around a comprehensive federal privacy law in the U.S. has reached a fever pitch. The House, Senate, and Trump Administration are all currently looking at the issue, and interested parties on all sides have voiced their support for a federal law. But what exactly should this new law look like? That’s where opinions start to diverge. This panel will gather speakers from industry, government and the public interest space to discuss why the U.S. needs to pass a federal privacy law now. We will look at where there is consensus on how the U.S. should tackle federal privacy legislation, and perhaps more importantly, where there is disagreement.

Only a few years ago, the artificial intelligence (AI) industry was mired in slow growth. There were few players in the game, making it feel as if AI was contained to a few players - with IBM’s Watson being one of the few success stories. Times have changed, and AI has quickly evolved from the obscure to the mainstream. Our economic and national security ecosystems are touched by AI almost every day. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), AI is ushering in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” -- the first major workplace transformation to focus on streamlining intellectual labor in addition to manual labor. WEF estimates in its “The Future of Jobs Report 2018,” that while 75 million jobs may be displaced, 133 million jobs may emerge as humans and machines work together in the future. But with progress comes difficult questions. How will AI affect our economic prosperity and national security? How do we expand a more diverse pipeline or trained workers? How are we retooling our educational curriculum? How are we breaking down existing silos? How do we recruit and retrain for a 21st century workforce?
