Are telemedicine, voice recognition and mobile applications emerging issues in healthcare IT, or current issues? What about dealing with fax machines – is it still an issue, or do solution providers not have to deal with it anymore?

These were a few of the topics discussed at the CompTIA Healthcare IT Community meeting at the CompTIA Annual Member Meeting today in Chicago.

The group began creating a roadmap of the healthcare IT industry, pinpointing emerging, current and fading issues and trends in areas like regulation, technologies, services and customer expectations. The goal is to create a current snapshot of the market, highlight potential business opportunities and threats on the horizon, and provide a document to help solution providers plan their business strategy. Community members plan to further discuss and refine the document in the coming months.

The group also made suggestions for data they would like to see from future CompTIA research studies, mostly information on healthcare provider attitudes and purchasing processes involving IT.
