U.S. Midwest

Over the last several years, the Midwest has seen a boom to its growing tech sector. As more tech companies call the Midwest home, we must promote the growth to relevant stakeholders as well as advocate for smart policies to encourage expansion of the industry. CompTIA’s Midwest region, headquartered in Chicago, covers Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

Some key Midwest figures from the CompTIA Cyberstates Report:

  • Michigan was the 5th fastest growing state in tech employment, with an increase of 8,100 new jobs in the sector.
  • Illinois’ high-tech industry ranks as the 8th largest Cyberstate where the tech industry employed 227,675 workers with a total payroll of $20.9 billion in 2014, an increase of approximately 18,000 jobs and $2.6 billion in just two years.
  • Kansas’s average tech industry wage in 2012 was $80,000, almost double the state’s average private sector wage. In Minnesota, 5.8 % of private sector workers consisted of tech employees.
