The Cybersecurity Committee focuses on the development of policies and initiatives designed to improve the security of the nation's critical information infrastructure through cooperation and outreach among industry and government. Whether the challenge is mobilizing collaboration within the private sector toward practical information security solutions, engaging government leadership on critical information security concerns, influencing public policy, promoting cyber security R&D, or building the talent base globally, this committee is at the forefront of the information security dialogue.
Specifically, the Committee advocates for the development of a national cybersecurity strategy and focuses on a wide variety of policy issues including, but not limited to: Critical Infrastructure management, Information Sharing, Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), Education and Awareness, and International Cybersecurity Issues.
In addition, the committee analyzes legislative and regulatory proposals, responds to requests from Congress and the administration, provides testimony for relevant tax issues and presents CompTIA Membership with networking opportunities with key decision makers.

Earlier this week, the House of Representatives unanimously passed H.R. 3359, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Act of 2017. The legislation would rename the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Cybersecurity continues to be a top focus of state CIOs, in fact, state legislatures and executives have made efforts to increase their states’ cyber preparedness. Large scale policy projects are under way through the National Governors Association Chair and Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe’s initiative, “Meet the Threat: States Confront the Cyber Challenge” and the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Task Force on Cybersecurity.

On Tuesday, as part of the Administration’s “tech week”, CompTIA CEO Todd Thibodeaux joined his fellow tech trade association leaders for a “listening session” at the White House on tax reform and government IT modernization. It was an intimate gathering of about 15 people in the Roosevelt Room and followed a well reported and productive meeting the day before with many of the leading global technology firm CEOs.
