Metro area is home to nearly 72,000 tech workers, according to CompTIA Cyberstates 2019™

Milwaukee – Tech-related employment in the Milwaukee metropolitan area held steady in 2018 and the tech sector increased its contribution to the local economy, according to Cyberstates 2019™, the definitive guide to tech sector and workforce analytics released this week by CompTIA, the leading technology industry association.

Net tech employment in the Milwaukee market added 478 new jobs last year and now totals an estimated 71,755 workers, or 8.3 percent of the region’s total workforce[1]. More than 6,000 tech-related jobs have been added to the local economy since 2010.

The tech sector’s contribution to the local economy is estimated at $9.1 billion, equal to about 9.7 percent of the total economy.

Tech occupations in high demand in the market include software and web developers (+2.5 percent year over year growth) and computer system and cybersecurity analysts (+1.6 percent).

The median tech occupation wage is $68,969; 59 percent higher than the median wage for all occupations.

The outlook for future employment growth is positive. The Milwaukee market saw a 137  percent increase in the number of job postings related to emerging technologies.
