CompTIA Names California State Senator Henry Stern 2018 Tech Champion

Feb 19, 2019

SACRAMENTO - CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, has named California State Senator Henry Stern as the 2018 California Tech Champion for his tireless support of the state’s diverse technology industry in the California state legislature.

The Tech Champions award recognizes those legislators who are outstanding advocates for the technology industry in the legislature and have shown consistent support for this vital economic sector. Since 1991, CompTIA has been recognizing state legislators for their contributions to the success of high-technology.

Sen. Stern will be honored at CompTIA’s New Legislator Welcome Reception on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Ella Dining Room and Bar in Sacramento.

“As a strong supporter of the technology industry, Sen Stern is always willing to ask the tough questions during the critical debates taking place in the legislature,” said Kelly Hitt, CompTIA’s director, state government affairs, California. “His work on behalf of tech businesses translates into the state’s still growing technology workforce. We are pleased to honor Sen. Stern with the 2019 Tech Champion for his ongoing efforts and support of the state’s technology community.”

A sixth-generation Californian with family roots in agriculture and entertainment, Sen. Stern was elected to represent the 27th Senate District, which includes parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, in 2016. A former civics teacher and environmental lawyer, Stern is the first millennial elected to the California State Senate. He enjoys volunteering at his local Boys & Girls Club, hiking, surfing and cooking. Stern is an alumnus of Harvard University and UC Berkeley Law.

“California is the innovation capital of the world, fueled by the ingenuity, passion and precision of our technology workforce,” said Senator Stern. “While challenges remain, our state’s best days lie ahead—and I’m confident that, with principled and credible tech partners, we will realize an economic future that is prosperous, fair and more innovative than ever.”
