Leading tech association pledges dollar-for-dollar match for donations to relief efforts

Downers Grove, Ill. – CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, today launched a fundraising effort to assist victims of Hurricane Florence and encouraged its corporate and individual members, certification alumni, industry partners, and the broader technology community to join in the effort.

CompTIA, through its CompTIA Giving charitable endeavor, will match dollar-for-dollar all contributions up to a total of $100,000, according to Charles Eaton, the association’s executive vice president for social innovation and CEO of Creating IT Futures.

"The people of the Carolinas have lived through hurricanes for decades, but all indications are that Florence will be a storm unlike any other,” Eaton said. “Beyond the immediate heavy rainfall, storm surges and hurricane and tropical-storm force winds, the region faces a long-term threat of flooding, even in inland areas far from the coast.”

“The technology industry is made up of people with big hearts and deep compassion,” he continued. “The people of CompTIA are committed to doing our part to provide aid to those in need. We encourage everyone in the tech community to help out in any way that they can."

CompTIA has partnered with Heart to Heart International, a global humanitarian organization based in Lenexa, Kan., which has worked to improve health and to respond to the needs of disaster victims worldwide since 1992.

“Heart to Heart is actively responding to Hurricane Florence, with its volunteer mobile medical unit in position to provide help to the areas most affected by the storm's path,” Eaton  said.

About CompTIA Giving
In time and money CompTIA gives back to IT-related charities that help youth and adults pursue careers in IT and help to diversify the IT workforce. Our Tech Leaders Giving Circle works with industry leaders to identify worthwhile charities and make a $1,000 donation in those leaders’ names. Our member communities and councils select technology-related charities to make annual donations of $10,000. Since 2012, these communities and councils have donated more than a half million dollars. CompTIA also selects other non-profits to support financially and with volunteerism. In total, the association donates five percent of its annual revenue to charitable initiatives.
