Alabama Launches New Statewide Longitudinal Data System

Last month, the Alabama Workforce Council publicly released its recommendations for collaboration between Alabama businesses and education officials and a series of innovative initiatives aimed at transforming workforce development efforts and improving educational outcomes in the state.

One such initiative is the creation of a new statewide longitudinal data system to provide better information about education and workforce trends to businesses currently operating or considering expansion in the state, businesses considering moving to the state, economic developers, and state and local education leaders.

As a result of the council’s recommendations, Governor Robert Bentley issues the following executive order, officially establishing the program within the state’s Office of Education and Workforce Statistics.  The office will be responsible for administering the program as well as overseeing a statewide advisory board which will work to develop various data privacy policies related to program.
