Update on Maine Cell Phone Labeling Bill

As expected, the Maine Joint Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications gave a divided report (not unanimous) on LD 883 during a work session on April 16.  The Committee voted 7-4 that LD 883 “ought not to pass.”  Both the Senate and House chairs voted for the majority report.

The Committee’s majority “ought not to pass” report is important; however, LD 883 is eligible to next go before the Democratic-controlled House for a vote by the full chamber since the Committee issued a divided report.  TechAmerica delivered testimony in opposition to at the public hearing on March 31, and will remain engaged with other allies urging members of the Legislature to oppose the bill as it moves through the process.
