CompTIA Security Trustmark

Program Description
The CompTIA Security Trustmark is a vendor neutral accreditation around security business capabilities and processes that have been agreed upon by the IT industry to promote generally accepted security practices that will invoke the trust of end-users.

The objective of the CompTIA Security Trustmark accreditation is to develop a baseline standard of security practices around service and support business competencies for Solution Providers and Managed Services Providers (MSPs).

Benefits of the CompTIA Security Trustmark Program
The CompTIA Security Trustmark program is beneficial because it:

  • Acts as a competitive differentiator for solution providers soliciting end user business
  • Provides confidence and assurance to end users of SP security expertise
  • Enables organizations to meet compliance governance, including PCI compliance
  • Establishes foundational security practices relevant to all Solution Providers, regardless of size
  • Offers holistic security evaluation of an enterprise
  • Promotes strategic business partnerships
  • Qualifies partners or service providers

Program Background
The Trustmark concept was first proposed at a strategic planning meeting in early 2007. CompTIA's Board of Directors noted a market need for CompTIA to assist Solution Providers in developing best business practices. After the Trustmark concept was approved, three phases of research were conducted to determine its feasibility, as well as the type of Trustmark that was important to Solution Providers. Results from Harris Interactive research suggested a Trustmark focused around security practices.

Next Steps
To ensure its success, the CompTIA Security Trustmark needs continued support from the industry. Learn more about the Security Trustmark and how you can get involved by contacting Earle Humphreys at ehumphreys@comptia.org.
