The Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum (ECTF) brings together the best converged technologies (CT) industry thinkers to deliver on a shared vision in the CT space to allow for open access to a diversity of communications products and services.

Participants include computer telephony industry suppliers, developers, systems integrators and users who work together to achieve agreement on multi-vendor implementations of technology, based on global standards. CompTIA ECTF members collaborate to grow their businesses and improve their bottom lines by developing and applying CT interoperability standards in ways that allow widespread deployment of open telephony solutions.

The ultimate promise of information technology is that it empowers people to collaborate with one another more effectively and with greater ease. Since the invention of the telephone more than a century ago, telephony technology has evolved tremendously. Innovation was fast and furious in the earliest days following Alexander Graham Bell's invention — it took less than two years to commercialize the technology and to this day, the pace has not slowed. While modern computer technology is a much more recent invention, its history has been just as fast-paced. The key is technology's ability to improve the ways people communicate and collaborate, because these activities are at the heart of all human endeavor.

The motivation behind CT is customization and control. The real significance of bringing computer technology to the field of telephony is the opportunity to create customized and personalized communications environments by choosing from a diversity of modular components and integrating them to build a solution that uniquely satisfies a particular need.
