CompTIA Senior VP Nancy Hammervik Named as Finalist in Ninth Annual Stevie® Awards for Women in Business

Winners to be announced in New York on Nov. 9

Downers Grove, Ill., October 11, 2012CompTIA, the non-profit association for the information technology (IT) industry, today announced that Nancy Hammervik, its senior vice president for industry relations, is a finalist for a prestigious Stevie® Award for Women in Business.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs and the companies they run – worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world’s premier business awards.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word “crowned,” Gold, Silver and Bronze Stevie Award winners will be announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Friday, Nov. 9.  Nominated women executives and entrepreneurs from the U.S.A and several other countries are expected to attend.

More than 1,200 entries were submitted this year – the ninth annual competition – for consideration in more than 90 categories, including Executive of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Women Helping Women and Communications Campaign of the Year.

Hammervik is a finalist in the Female Innovator of the Year category for government and non-profit organizations. Her selection was due in part to her work with the CompTIA Advancing Women in IT Community. The group serves as a vital information resource for women in the IT industry. The group recently established a mentoring program to support women interested in entering and advancing in IT careers.

“We’re very excited about this year’s finalists in the Stevie Awards for Women in Business,” said Michael Gallagher, founder and president of the Stevie Awards. “The judges have told me that they think this is the best and most inspiring crop of nominees we’ve ever had.  We look forward to seeing the judges’ final decisions.”

Finalists were chosen by more than 130 business professionals worldwide during preliminary judging. More than 90 members of the five final judging committees will determine the Gold, Silver and Bronze Stevie Award placements from among the finalists.

“Recognition by the Stevie Awards for our Advancing Women in IT program comes as a fantastic surprise,” Hammervik said. “Women have played a vital role in the growth of the IT industry. We’re committed to expanding opportunities for them to do so through our mentoring program. It’s gratifying to know that the efforts of many people have been recognized for their significance, On behalf of our Advancing Women in IT community, thank you to the Stevie Awards judges for this honor.”
