CompTIA Commends Congress on Passage of Payroll Tax Extension
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 17, 2012 - Today, both the House and Senate passed H.R. 3630, a bill that will extend the payroll tax extension through the end of 2012. The following statement was issued by Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA.
“CompTIA commends Congress on passage of H.R. 3630 today. This important piece of legislation will support our continuing economic recovery, which is vital to create new jobs for the American workforce.
“We believe the cooperation of Congress on this important legislation is a promising sign that our representatives can work together when the good of the American economy and its workers are at stake. And while we are fully supportive of the 2 percent payroll tax reduction, we also note that this same reduction should be extended to the many small businesses that create and maintain the jobs that are leading this country out of economic recession.
“CompTIA conducted a survey of small and medium sized tech and tech intense companies last summer regarding their tax priorities. We found that their number one priority was reduction of the payroll tax. CompTIA membership carried this message to Washington, D.C., in meetings with over 50 Congressional offices and continued with a powerful grassroots effort to urge a compromise on this issue by sending scores of messages to Congress via TechVoice.org. Without a doubt, this type of member engagement is an essential component of our advocacy efforts. Our members have consistently supported the extension of this payroll tax reduction, and we are pleased that their support and actions have contributed to this extension.”
