CompTIA Recognized as among Best Places to Work in Illinois

Downers Grove, Ill., May 16, 2011 – CompTIA, the non-profit association for the information technology (IT) industry, has been selected as one of the 2011 Best Places to Work in Illinois.

CompTIA is one of just 40 organizations to win a 2011 award through the program that identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in Illinois, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses.

The program, which began in 2006, is promoted by The Daily Herald Business Ledger in partnership with the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago, the Society for Human Resource Management – Illinois State Council and the Workforce Boards of Metropolitan Chicago; and is managed by Best Companies Group.

“Over the last few years we’ve taken steps to reinvigorate CompTIA as a workplace where talented people have opportunities to contribute to the success of an entire industry and find a healthy balance between their professional careers and personal lives,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. “We’re honored at being selected as one of the best places to work in Illinois and are thrilled to be a part of the state’s vibrant and growing tech community.”

The 2011 Best Places to Work in Illinois list is made up of 24 companies in the small/medium-sized category (15-249 U.S. employees) and 16 companies in the large-sized group (250 or more U.S. employees). CompTIA was recognized in the small/medium category.

To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

• Have at least 15 employees working in Illinois.
• Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business or government entity.
• Be a publicly or privately held business.
• Have a facility in the state of Illinois.
• Be in business a minimum of one year.

CompTIA has been headquartered in Illinois since 1985. The association moved to its current location in Downers Grove in December 2010. CompTIA employs 151 people worldwide, including 82 in Illinois.

CompTIA and the other honorees will be recognized at the Best Places to Work in Illinois awards ceremony coordinated by The Daily Herald Business Ledger on May 19 and will be profiled in a special publication by The Daily Herald Business Ledger on June 27. The final rankings will be announced at the event.

Companies across the state entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Illinois. The first part consisted of evaluating each nominated company's workplace policies, practices and demographics. This part of the process was worth approximately 25 percent of the total evaluation.

The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience, worth approximately 75 percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking. Best Companies Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Illinois and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final rankings.
