IT Business Growth Professionals Group is Newest CompTIA Community
Members commit to sharing expertise and guidance to advance industry growth
Downers Grove, Ill., April 25, 2011 – CompTIA, the non-profit trade association for the information technology (IT) industry, today announced the formation of its newest community, a group of industry experts who offer consulting services and guidance to help IT companies and vendors grow and thrive.
Members of the CompTIA IT Business Growth Professionals Community share a common goal focused on delivering expertise and guidance to positively impact the success of technology companies. The group met earlier this month at the CompTIA Annual Member Meeting.
“IT business growth professionals are often a critical component in the success of technology solution providers, vendors and distributors,” said Kirk Smallwood, vice president, strategic relationships, CompTIA.
“This is especially true with small entrepreneurs, who are typically technology focused and have a great need for industry and business knowledge that can help them address the challenges they face on the path to growth and success,” Smallwood explained. “Larger or fast-growth organizations generally also require outside expertise to achieve business and market objectives and gain marketplace and competitive leverage.”
The CompTIA IT Business Growth Professionals Community intends to raise awareness of the value that business growth professionals can add to a technology business; advance professionalism among business growth professionals; and create best practices and tools for working with clients.
“We’ve pulled together a strong roster of industry leaders, each of whom has the expertise, industry knowledge and commitment to create an environment for success among IT companies,” said Ken Thoreson, president, Acumen Management Group, and chairman of the CompTIA IT Business Growth Professionals Community. “We believe there are a sizeable number of technology companies, vendors and solutions providers, in business today who would benefit greatly from the guidance and insight of a business advisor or consultant.”
Dale Johnson, president and chief executive officer, Technology Assurance Group, is vice chairman of the community.
Some of the early initiatives the community will address include:
• Creating best practices and standards of professionalism for business growth professionals to work with clients.
• Developing customer expectations guidelines and an IT Solution Provider Business Assessment tool.
• Publishing a community directory of business growth professionals on the CompTIA web site that technology companies can use to locate a member to assist in their business growth.
The group will hold its next fact-to-face meeting at Breakaway 2011, the premier education event for companies doing business in the IT channel, in Washington D.C., Aug. 1-4.
CompTIA offers 11 member-driven communities on a range of issues that IT companies are dealing with today. These groups provide a platform for experts and leaders to collaborate, address common issues and challenges and create educational resources and business tools for the industry.
