CompTIA Educational Foundation Awards Spring IT Merit Scholarships to 38 Students
Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., May 25, 2010 - The CompTIA Educational Foundation awarded IT Merit Award Scholarships to 38 students nationwide this spring.
Scholarships worth $250 each were given to 25 students nationwide who are pursuing careers in the IT industry. The Foundation also gave 13 $500 awards, the Dorianne and John Venator IT Merit Award Scholarships, to students who are more advanced in their IT studies and had passed at least two CompTIA certification exams.
The IT Merit Award Scholarship program recognizes outstanding accomplishments by students and adult learners in the CompTIA Education to Careers (E2C), CompTIA’s Authorized Delivery Partners, and existing CompTIA Learning Alliance (CLA) programs who have trained for and received CompTIA certification.
The Venator Award recipients came from eight schools this spring and include:
- Advanced Technology Center, Virginia Beach, Va.: Louis J. Mungin
- Anthis Career Center, Fort Wayne, Ind.: Matt Hansen
- Career Training Corp., Richardson, Texas: Cynthia Mitchell, Michael Presnell and Veson Douangmanilay
- Chesterfield Technical Center, Chesterfield, Va.: Bryan Hogan
- Heald College, Portland, Ore.: Christine Guyett
- Thomas Edison High School of Technology, Silver Spring, Md.: Christopher Hamer and Daniel Maselko
- Virginia College, Huntsville, Ala.: Ashley Everson, Chad Knapp and James Gooden
- Weaver Academy, Greensboro, N.C.: Neil Shah
The other IT Merit Award recipients comprise 24 schools and include:

"Through our scholarship program, we hope to enable the next IT generation,” said Dennis Zimmerman, director of the CompTIA Educational Foundation. “These students have put forth tremendous effort to ready themselves for an IT career and we look forward to them joining our industry."
