2010 Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic at TPC San Antonio to Fund Tech Training for Veterans

Baker’s Dozen of IT Leaders Demonstrate their Support

Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., May 4, 2010 - Raising nearly $100,000 in sponsorships so far, the 2010 Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic, hosted by the CompTIA Educational Foundation, runs August 9 at TPC San Antonio during CompTIA’s annual Breakaway conference. The event will fundraise for information technology (IT) training and certification for military veterans.

More than a dozen IT leaders are participating, including AXZO Press, Cisco, Hewlett Packard, InFocus, Ingram Micro, Intronis, Pearson VUE, Prometric, SkillSoft, Synnex Corp., Tech Image, Mobile Armor and Xerox. Plus, Celebrity Golf Pro and CBS Television Analyst Ian Baker-Finch will join IT leaders at the event.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Foundation’s Creating Futures program which provides training and certification opportunities to populations who have historically been under-represented in the IT workforce, including U.S. veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, minorities, at-risk youth and dislocated workers. Creating Futures works with employers to identify their hiring needs, then tailors its training to help individuals obtain the skills employers require.

In 2009, the Foundation provided training to 574 military veterans, including 244 disabled veterans – nearly a five-fold annual increase.  Already another 107 veterans are currently enrolled in Creating Futures for 2010.

“Our military men and women give their all for this country day in and day out. When they retire from service, it’s our duty to help them transition as easily as possible into the business world – and no industry has more stable and positive future growth than IT,” said Dennis Zimmerman, director, CompTIA Educational Foundation. “By supporting Creating Futures and its Charity Golf Classic, our sponsors are helping more military veterans get the training they need to build a solid future for themselves.”

Beyond training support for military veterans, the Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic allows IT leaders to have hours of one-on-one time with their key partners.  Event sponsors for 2010 can invite their partners to play golf at TPC San Antonio, a brand new golf course that opened this year. Breakaway conference attendees also can buy foursomes to play in the golf tournament.

Individuals and companies can make a donation to Creating Futures, and prospective participants can apply for training by visiting the Foundation’s website, http://www.CompTIA-EF.org.  For more golf sponsorship information, contact Dennis Zimmerman at DZimmerman@CompTIA-EF.org.
