"RE-DISCOVERING INNOVATION"

CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association, is pleased to invite you to its first Czech INNOVATION FORUM (IF) at the K+K Hotel Central, Prague, on 13 December 2006, from 10.30 to 16:00.

The Czech Republic has a strong industrial tradition and an old legacy in science and technology. Otto Wichterle's hydrogel (contact lenses), Frantisek Krizik's lamps and electric trains, Josef Ressel's ship propellers - these are only some examples of Czech innovation history. Despite this rich heritage, the Czech Republic no longer ranks as highly in European and worldwide patent applications, particularly in the information and communications (ICT) sector.

To support the Czech Republic's emerging competitiveness in ICT, policymakers need to be increasingly cognizant that "innovation" - the ability to invent and bring to market compelling new technologies, products and services - requires the right market and legislative conditions, as well as substantial investment in research and development. In cooperation with the Czech ICT Alliance, CompTIA will assemble leading policymakers, experts and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and experiences to develop practical strategies towards creating a more favourable policy environment for ICT innovation.

The CompTIA Innovation Forum in Prague follows the success of similar awareness-raising events in Vilnius, Budapest, Warsaw and Copenhagen. The IF will also provide an excellent networking opportunity for high-tech ICT companies to meet public and private sector investors. Greater understanding of the European patent system by policymakers and practitioners will also empower software companies to make the most of the expanding market opportunities offered by the European Union.
