CompTIA Exam Development

CompTIA frequently solicits the help of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in developing and maintaining our certification exams. Assistance from SMEs is crucial to developing quality content for the appropriate level of expertise. SMEs work with peers and CompTIA staff to create or review items associated with the technologies, knowledge sets and best practices for certified professionals.

SMEs who participate in workshops at CompTIA Headquarters are provided with a stipend; a CompTIA voucher; a CompTIA shirt; and breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner on some meeting days. There are opportunities to participate in short remote workshops, but the benefits do not apply.

We are currently recruiting for the following workshops:

• CompTIA Security+ Item Development Workshop, Nov. 9-13
• CompTIA Project+ Cut Score Workshop, Jan. 18-20, 2010
• CompTIA CDIA+ Job Task Analysis, Feb. 8-10, 2010
• CompTIA A+ Item Development Workshop, Feb. 22-26, 2010

• Must have two years of hands-on experience with applicable technology and tools. It is preferred, but not required, that SMEs are CompTIA certified.
• If applying for a workshop at CompTIA Headquarters, must be able to commit to up to an 8-hour/day, 5-day work week at CompTIA in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. Oakbrook Terrace is a Chicago suburb accessible by car from O’Hare and Midway airports.
• Must sign the CompTIA Non-Disclosure Agreement. Potential SMEs should review the NDA and make sure they have a thorough understanding of its terms.
• Although CompTIA appreciates interest from the training community, applications from trainers, authors or individuals who can profit from or materially benefit from knowledge of CompTIA certification program content are not eligible to participate as SMEs.
