Florida Legislature's Special Session Produces Tax Reductions

The Florida Legislature's special session adjourned June 19 after the House and Senate passed a $78.7 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2015-2016 (which begins July 1, 2015). The budget included over $400 million in tax reductions approved earlier in the week, including a reduction in the communications services tax, a 10-day sales tax holiday on the first $750 of the price of computers and accessories, and an expansion of the R&D tax credit.

The budget included over $400 million in tax reductions approved earlier in the week, including a reduction in the communications services tax, a 10-day sales tax holiday on the first $750 of the price of computers and accessories, and an expansion of the R&D tax credit. The 2015-2016 budget also includes $60 million for Florida's "Digital Classroom Initiative", which was established in the current fiscal year with a $40 million appropriation. This appropriation will include an initiative between the Department of Education and the new Agency for State Technology.
