Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic to Help Military Vets Gain New Tech Careers
Pearson VUE Signs on as Title Sponsor
Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., February 18, 2010 - The CompTIA Educational Foundation is dedicating all the funds it raises from its 2010 Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic to provide information technology (IT) training and certification to military veterans. Pearson VUE signed on as a title sponsor for the golf event.
The Charity Golf Classic will run August 9 at the TPC San Antonio golf course during CompTIA’s annual Breakaway conference.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Foundation’s Creating Futures program which provides training and certification opportunities to populations who have historically been under-represented in the IT workforce, including U.S. veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, minorities, at-risk youth and dislocated workers. Creating Futures works with employers to identify their hiring needs, then tailors its training to help individuals obtain the skills employers require.
In 2009, the Foundation provided training to 574 military veterans, including 244 disabled veterans – nearly a five-fold annual increase.
“We want to help every returning soldier achieve a rewarding life-long career after they retire from the military. With the golf event, we’re funding those career dreams,” sand Randy Trask, vice president, market development, Pearson VUE, and general chair, 2010 Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic. “I encourage more companies to support Creating Futures. Our military veterans deserve our gratitude and help.”
The past three Creating Futures Charity Golf Classics have raised more than $466,000 in total from sponsors and the CompTIA Board matching program. The events allow IT leaders to have hours of one-on-one time with their key partners. Event sponsors for 2010 can invite their partners to play golf at TPC San Antonio, a brand new golf course that opened this year. Breakaway conference attendees also can buy foursomes to play in the golf tournament.
“We hope to reach out to more IT companies and Texas-based companies to participate in both the golf event and Creating Futures. Only by working together, can we help our military veterans,“ said John Venator, president and CEO, CompTIA Educational Foundation.
Individuals and companies can make a tax-deductible donation to Creating Futures, and prospective participants can apply for training by visiting the Foundation’s website, http://www.CompTIA-EF.org. For more golf sponsorship information, contact Dennis Zimmerman at DZimmerman@CompTIA-EF.org.
